Plan Notes
Water tank placed on 4/27. Placed landscape staples at trellis nets 5/4. 3 each on walkway trellises and multiple on bean and cuke nets. Little rain by 5/12. About 1/2 inch week of May 5. High (+25mph) winds 5/12. Removed landscape staples on bean trellis 5/19. Found Colorado Potato Beetles on two tomato plants 5/19. Closed eggplant hoop house 5/19. Flea beetles on eggplant plants. Fed most everything in South plot, along with eggplant and potatoes 5/29. Weeded trench 5/29. RAIN Sunday 5/31 Spread mulch on tomatoes and herb garden Monday, 6/1 Heavy RAIN afternoon & evening 6/1. Steady RAIN all day 6/2---1.2" in rain gauge. Mulched pepper plots 6/7. 6/8 Heavy thunderstorms, 2.25 " RAIN, flooded path between melons and tomatoes, and between tomatoes and peas. 6/10 Dug out trench again, cleared channels for rain to flow out between raised beds. Hid hoe in beets. 6/10 Week of 90-degree weather predicted. Replaced row cover over lettuce and escarole. 6/11 Covered water tank with black trash bags 6/12 Fed peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, eggplants, cukes, melons, squash, onions and pole beans. 6/17 RAIN 0.1" 6/18 Requested and was granted permission to clear 4' of weeds from adjoining plots 6/18 RAIN 0.75" 6/19 Took second harvest of basil today. Replaced Agribon+ on eggplant house with micromesh 6/20 RAIN 3.4" Tropical Storm Bill. NO DAMAGE!!! 6/21 Picked shell peas. Placed solarizing plastic between peas & peppers. 6/22 Picked shell peas. RAIN 1.00" . Placed solarizing plastic between peppers & beets. Placed newspaper under mulch at peppers. Placed trellis at cantaloupe. 6/24 Picked shell peas. No sign of delphinium seedlings. Replanted four nasturtiums at corner of herb garden. 6/25 RAIN 0.1" Pulled shell pea plants. Raised final melon trellis. Cut weeds on north neighbor lot. 6/26 Mulched south beds with grass clippings from Tim Spangler 6/27 RAIN 1.5" most of the day. No gardening today. 6/28 Storm damage to tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, onions & corn. Winds from southeast. Sprayed tomatoes and peppers with Bonide Vegetable spray for early blight. Will have sugar snap peas and zucchini to pick in one or two days. Also, a couple "The Godfather" peppers. 6/29 RAIN 0.1"Pulled mulch away from peppers....ground is way too wet. Harvested more beets. Sprayed squash & cucumbers for powdery mildew. Cut weeds on south neighbor lot. 6/30 RAIN 0.15"Aerated ground around peppers with pitchfork. Transplanted sunflowers to southern boundry. Removed solarizing plastic from beds between cukes & peppers and beets & peppers. 7/1 NO RAIN!!! Sunny, breezy day. Suckered tomatoes. Fed peppers, cukes, melons. Melon on each side wilting. 7/4 RAIN 0.4" 7/5 Removed cardboard mulch from around eggplants. Opened eggplant house. 7/6 Weeded south paths and both walkways. Sprayed peppers. Some sort of small white fly in peppers. Sprayed ant colony at end of beets. Harvested last golden beet and other round beets. Picked sugar snaps for the first time. Melon on east side now NOT wilted. West side still wilted. Three cantaloupes, no melons yet. Two eggplants. Picked one Socretes cuke. Gave Big Jim's partner some dill to plant. Picked 2 small zucchini, one eightball. 7/7 RAIN TRACE Tim dropped off more grass, covered paths on South plot, except near peppers. Tied more tomatoes. Pick sugar snaps. 7/8 RAIN TRACE Picked a few more sugar snaps, a couple okra pods. Sprayed meloms with veg. spray. Sprayed peppers with epsom. 7/9 RAIN 0.4" Sprayed tomatoes, peppers, melons, pole beans, cukes, squash with copper fungicide. Eggplants and peppers with Veg. spray. Picked a couple okra and one yellow squash. 7/13 Sprayed sugar snaps, beans, cukes & squash with neem oil extract prior to storm 7/14 RAIN 0.9" overnight Raised reflective mulch on peppers by inserting a layer of crinkled chicken wire underneath the mulch. Hopefully, this will allow enough air under the mulch to allow the earth to dry out. 7/15 RAIN 0.4" Cleared blighted growth off tomatoes, eggplants. pulled back reflective mulch off peppers. Tiburon fell down in wind, staked it back up. Picked first Noreaster beans. 7/16 Planted radish/carrots in beet bed. Picked sugar snaps, Northeasters. 7/17 Picked sugar snaps, squash, tomatoes, 1 amadeo eggplant. Dusted cukes, tomatoes, melons, eggplant, onions, beans & squash. 7/19 HOT. 90s. Picked first eggplant (Amadeo). Picked cukes: one Socrates, one Amiga. Pulled one red onion, brought three braided yellow onions home. 7/20 HOT. 90s. Sprayed neem oil extract on beans, eggplants, squash, cukes, tomatoes, snap peas. Spotted first Inca Red Drop pepper. 7/26 Picked first cantaloupe. 6" diameter. Dee-licious! 7/31 Bagged peppers. 8/1 Sprayed peppers with epsom. Pulled up sugar snap vines. 90s. 8/2 Sprayed eggplants, beans, squash, tomatoes, cukes with Cap'n Jack's Deadbug Brew spray. High 80s. 8/3 Sprayed tomatoes, cukes & unbagged peppers with copper sulfate. 8/9 Dusted squash with Cap'n Jack dust.
