About this Garden Plan

Ryan Murphy 5/30/2014 hort 1 Garden Report The garden layout that I chose is made to have a mix of a lot of fruits, vegetables and some oriental flowers to attract bees for pollination. In most of my beds I have a cover crop at some point, In the ones that don't have a cover crop are no till so there gather some wild flowers. An example of a no till bed is the big one with strawberries and tomatoes no till works will with tomatoes because tomatoes suck a lot of nutrients out of the soil and they have big roots so there keep the to till ground a little more soft. The can see in the upper right hand corner i have a mulch bin, a compost bin and a pond. I like to have the pond because it is a nice decorative touch to the garden and it encourages some wildlife like frogs which help keep down the flies and other harmful bugs that could eat away at you plants like june bugs. In the spring of 2014 I also released a couple thousand ladybugs in the garden because last year I had a big aphid problem that wrecked a lot of my tomatoes. In most of my beds at least one other type of plant this method is called intercropping can help to prevent pets and it can give you higher yields for example i planted pole beans at the base of the corn so that the pole beans can go up the stock this is really helpful because you don't need to spend time setting up poles for them to climb up It also increases the yields by putting more plant in less space. You can also plant potatoes under it all to get even higher yields but I did not go that far. In my garden i have a large bed on the left that has peroneal crops like tomatoes and strawberries. To the bottom right of the peroneal bed I have a bed that has watermelons and cantaloupes i like to have as many perennials as possible because there are much easier to maintain and you don't need to worry about putting in cover crops but the downside of using lots of perennials is that it is much more expensive to buy seeds. above the mel
