Treat your planting site with aged manure or compost to supply the necessary organic matter and fill your soil with nutrients. Cauliflower prefers a garden soil pH of 6.0 to 7.0. fish blood and bone
Mix composted manure or another high-nitrogen compost into the soil before planting. When heads begin to form, feed with a liquid plant food.
Add mulch. Mulching can keep your soil moist and cool, which is important for the proper development of your cauliflower seeds and plants. Any severe fluctuation in conditions can be detrimental to your crops.

3. mulch after planting, to prevent soil structure change, mulch with straw, 1-2" then remove when shoots appear.
Fertilise monthly, side dress work in 3-4" from plant, with nitrogen, blood meal, do not use nitrogen after May, it will stunt bulb growth
Keep the area around your garlic weed-free since it doesn’t compete well with weeds. Water the garlic deeply every eight to 10 days if spring is dry but taper off in June. Start checking for mature cloves at the end of June. It’s best to dig one out and cut it in half to check for maturity since the green tops of garlic don’t die back like other Alliums when they are ready. You’re looking for plump cloves covered with thick, dry papery skin.

Garlic
Germidour
| 35 | 15cm | 10cm x 25cm | Softneck
Softneck garlic varieties (Allium sativum var. sativum) are the best ones to grow if you live in a milder climate. They don't form scapes and generally contain several small cloves per bulb. They mature more quickly than hardneck varieties. Softneck varieties tend to store better than hardneck, so if you are looking for long-term storage, this type is the one to choose. |

Melon
Musk Melon
| 1 | 90cm | 90cm x 90cm | general purpose fertiliser to start
Once vines have developed runners, side dress the plant with a nitrogen fertilizer at every mound or plant.
Nitrogen (N) boosts leafy growth and is most needed in spring and early summer. Avoid applying a high-nitrogen fertiliser late in the season as soft leafy growth is easily damaged by frost. High nitrogen feeders include lawn food.
Phosphorus (P) promotes root development, so higher levels of phosphorus are required when planting, particularly in autumn. Bonemeal contains high levels of phosphorus.
Potassium (K) helps flowers and fruit to form and should be applied from late spring to the end of summer. A good example of a high potassium feed is a tomato feed (above) which is used to increase flower and fruit production in fruiting plants, particularly tomatoes.

Ailsa Craig
| 9 | 15cm | 10cm x 20cm | How to sow seed
Sow seed in modules in January or February at 10-15°C (50-59°F).
Sow five or six seeds per module in damp seed compost - when planted out the clumps of bulbs will push themselves apart as they expand.
Cover seeds with a layer of vermiculite and label with variety name and date of sowing.
To have a year-round supply, you can sow once in spring for harvesting from August, and again in late summer or autumn to be ready from June, although a second planting isn't recommended in very heavy, wet soils. Onions should be given as long a growing season as possible to reach maximum size |
